The famous RunSport Victoria Track Classic is just around the corner!
, with gates opening at 4 p.m., this event will feature some of the region’s top athletes in a meet that has served as a stepping stone to international competition for athletes in the region.
This year, that list of athletes includes Madelyn Eybergen, competing in the women’s 5,000 metres.
Eybergen broke the UVic Vikes record in the 3,000 metres earlier this year, and helped lead the UVic Vikes’ cross country team to its first national championship since 2001. She capped off her impressive season of achievements by winning the TC10K, having the honour of being the reigning female champion.
Her best time is 15:46.04 for the 5,000 metre event, which she hopes to beat in the Track Classic this year.
On the men’s side, Tate O’Brien is looking to impress in the 800 metre.
He just achieved a personal best last Wednesday, June 3rd in Guelph, with a time of 1:48.94, and he aims to continue his successful season with another personal best on home soil at the RunSport Victoria Track Classic.
He’s also had a strong 2025 season, highlighted by a Canada West Gold medal in the 4×800 metre relay.
The day is going to be good times all around, with a concession stand, music, and a dedicated kids zone with inflatables.
The beloved UVic mascot Thunder will also add to the day’s celebrations, with the kids’ favourite Thunder Run—a free, one-lap race around the track for kids in attendance. Thunder will be at the start and finish lines, cheering on participants, and making time for group photos.
And there’s more good news for the little ones who want to get a piece of the action!
Prior to the meet, the RunSport Victoria Society will host a youth program for free: the RunSport Victoria Track Classic Race Around the Track, presented by Andrew Sheret Ltd.
The program is designed for youth aged five to 10 and will run from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with kids running around an obstacle-course style track intended to teach the FUNdamentals of running, jumping, and throwing.

Organizers say kids are invited to participate in the youth program and stay to cheer on the elite athletes afterwards.
This day is bound to be full of sweaty smiles and out-of-breath laughing, so get out and support your local athletes big and small, Victoria!
General admission tickets for the event are only $15 and can be purchased here, with free admission for youth 12 and under.
