The Market Collective is a community collective retail store that carries wares from local and Canadian makers. The store advertises that 80% of their items come from Vancouver Island, 95% come from BC, and 100% of their items are Canadian-made.
Originally created as a pop-up market and born out of a response to the cancelling of local markets during the pandemic, the market offered those who were no longer able to sell their wares the ability to continue to make an income at a time that was exceedingly difficult for so many.
Representing more than 200 local artisans and makers with products ranging from jewellery to art to home decor, this market truly is one the best ways to shop local and support your community here in Victoria.
Every purchase from the store supports small businesses, local entrepreneurs, and handmade craftsmanship in the community.
This new location was built by the team at Market Collective themselves, and the team says that they embraced their maker roots to create custom displays and fixtures.
Because of the larger space, the team is excited to showcase a wider selection of locally made products, creative displays, and even host community events and community activations.
The team aims to make this new space more than just a retail location, but a community hub where people can connect with local makers and discover unique, meaningful gifts.
Designed with a sense of magic, warmth, and discovery, the collective hopes the space will encourage guests to slow down and explore while supporting the collective’s mission of championing local creativity and keeping shopping dollars in the community.
