What Vancouver Island trick-or-treaters can expect weather wise on Halloween night

While we’re still over a week away from Halloween, the Weather Network has started to paint a picture of what Vancouver Island’s trick-or-treaters can expect for the big night.

Spoiler alert: it might be the kind of evening that has you reaching for an umbrella — but it won’t be as frightful as it could be!

Halloween falls just after a series of rainy, windy days forecast for BC this weekend, courtesy of another Pacific low following last weekend’s atmospheric river.

But thankfully, the ghoulish forecast is expected to settle down before kids (and adults) don their ominous costumes and hit the streets for candy.

The Weather Network released their long-range Halloween forecast, giving families a heads-up on how to prepare for the night of trick-or-treating.

While a chilly breeze and a few light showers may try to crash the party, it won’t be as menacing as it could have been.

“A long-range pattern shows a series of troughs moving across British Columbia and the Prairies, allowing chilly, northerly air to sink south,” according to the Weather Network.

So, will Vancouver Island trick-or-treaters be dodging raindrops as they go door-to-door?

Most likely not, or at least not much. But even if a few raindrops do fall, it’ll still be a far cry from what Alberta’s dealing with.

Our neighbours to the east saw their first snowfall this week, and they’ll be bundling up in winter gear come Halloween night.

As for Vancouver Island, the rain isn’t expected to completely spoil the night. Victoria can expect some help from the trusty rain-shadow effect, which should keep things drier than other parts of the province.

So, while places on the west coast of the island might see up to 100 mm of rain this weekend, Victoria is predicted to get just 5-10 mm.

With that said, those planning to take part in Halloween festivities might want to pack a light jacket and brace themselves for cooler temperatures, but your plans should remain intact.

So, get your costumes ready and stock up on candy — Halloween is just around the corner, and the weather, though a little chilly, won’t stop the fun!
