One of the biggest nights of the year has arrived, and Victoria, it’s time to show up in pink.
The Victoria Royals are set to host their annual ‘Pink in the Rink‘ game this Friday, February 14th, in support of cancer research and awareness.
While the date might coincide with Valentine’s Day, the real focus is on the fight against cancer and the power of community support.
The Royals are rallying fans to pack Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre pink for this meaningful game against the Vancouver Giants.
With the Royals sitting atop the BC Division and second in the Western Conference, this matchup is set to be an electric one, both for its playoff implications and its off-ice significance.
Thanks to key partners like Mayfair Optometric, the Fancy and David Foundation, and West Coast Cranes, this year’s event is projected to raise a record-breaking $35,000 for cancer research and support services.
The Victoria Royals Foundation will donate over $4,800 to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Vancouver Island Lodge, while proceeds from a special jersey auction will also go directly to the lodge.
Additionally, the Fancy and David Foundation has pledged to donate $5 from every ticket sold to the BC Cancer Foundation, supporting CAR-T immunotherapy research at the Deeley Research Centre in Victoria. West Coast Cranes will also contribute $5,000, matching the Royals Foundation donation.
“Cancer is something that has touched us all, and it will take all of us to help defeat it,” said David Wong of the Fancy and David Foundation.
“By simply buying a ticket, you’re making a real impact. Let’s pack the rink pink, cheer on the Royals to defeat the Vancouver Giants, and fight cancer the same night!”
The ‘Pink in the Rink’ initiative extends beyond the ice. On Tuesday, February 11th, Royals players will visit the Vancouver Island Lodge to meet residents and show their support ahead of the big game.
Fans attending Friday’s event can also take part in special activations around the arena, including a dedication wall to honour loved ones affected by cancer, exclusive Pink in the Rink merchandise, a 50/50 raffle with proceeds benefiting the Vancouver Island Lodge, special in-game tributes and a ceremonial puck drop, and redesigned pink rink boards to highlight the cause.
“This event is more than just a hockey game, it’s a night of community-led action and reflection,” said Joey Poljanowski, Vice President of Hockey Operations at the Victoria Royals. “We want to challenge our fans to pack the rink pink, wear the colour, celebrate those affected by cancer, and help us make an even bigger impact through attendance and donations.”
With every ticket purchased, fans are directly contributing to Victoria’s cancer research and support services. The Royals are encouraging everyone to don their best pink attire and fill the stands in support of the cause.
