One of Victoria’s favourite fried chicken spots is marking a major milestone this month—and doing it with a nod to the good old days.

Thunderbird, the locally owned Korean fried chicken restaurant in the heart of Cook Street Village, is celebrating its seventh anniversary by offering some of its most popular dishes at their original 2018 prices.

The promotion runs every Saturday in August, with a different menu item featured each week.

On August 9th, customers can order the Megan Burger for just $13.50, down from its regular price of $19. The following week, August 16th, Thunderbird’s Thunder Rice will be offered at $13, instead of the usual $18.

On Saturday August 23rd, the Popcorn Poutine will drop from $15.50 to $11, and on August 30th, the deal wraps up with the 7-piece Yangnyeom Chicken, offered at $17 rather than $22.

Thunderbird first opened its doors in 2018, building on the success of the former Chicken 649. Known for its creative Korean-style fried chicken and playful fusion comfort food, the restaurant has grown a loyal following over the past seven years.

In that time, Thunderbird temporarily expanded to include a Langford location.

In a message shared ahead of the anniversary, the team behind Thunderbird thanked their customers for years of continued support.

“It all began in 2016 with a lucky lottery ticket and the launch of a small fried chicken shop,” the post reads. “After passing that business on, we opened Thunderbird Restaurant in 2018—and seven years later, we’re still here, doing what we love.”

The throwback pricing is a way for the restaurant to show appreciation to the community that’s helped it thrive.

Thunderbird is located at 253 Cook Street in Victoria. More information can be found on their website or on Instagram.
