Vancouver Island continues to solidify its reputation as a world-class fishing destination, with three of its towns ranking among the top fishing spots worldwide for 2024.

In a study conducted by FishingBooker, the largest global platform for booking fishing trips, Sooke, Ucluelet, and Nanaimo were listed in the top 20 best fishing towns outside of the US.

Sooke secured an impressive fourth place on the list, followed closely by Ucluelet at sixth, and Nanaimo rounded out the top 12.

These rankings emerged from a comprehensive analysis of over 40,000 fishing trips, reviews, and reports gathered over the past year.

FishingBooker evaluated 266 towns worldwide, including notable destinations in Mexico, the Bahamas, and Costa Rica.

The rankings highlight Vancouver Island’s appeal for anglers, with the three towns receiving top marks in both the Average Recommended Score and Average Review Score categories.

The high praise from experienced fishers and the growing popularity of the area have cemented its reputation as a must-visit for anyone looking to experience premier fishing opportunities.

Why These Towns?

Sooke and Ucluelet are known for their rugged beauty, access to a variety of fish species, and dedicated charter services that draw both locals and international anglers.

Nanaimo, while often celebrated for its vibrant coastal life, is gaining recognition for its thriving fishing community.

How the rankings were calculated

FishingBooker’s rankings were determined based on five key criteria:

• Number of available fishing charters
• Average review score
• Average recommended score
• Number of guides awarded the Angler’s Choice Award
• Total bookings over the past year

Locations required a minimum of 10 bookings in the past 365 days to be included in the ranking.

Vancouver Island’s trio of towns excelled across these categories, showcasing their diverse fishing experiences and consistent positive feedback from the global fishing community.

This recognition further strengthens Vancouver Island’s position as a top global fishing destination.

With its stunning scenery, rich marine life, and fishing infrastructure, it’s no surprise that Sooke, Ucluelet, and Nanaimo have emerged as top spots in the international fishing community.

For anglers seeking their next adventure, these Vancouver Island towns are not to be missed.

Several other Vancouver Island locations made it into the top 266 fishing spots. Campbell River ranked 21st, followed by Qualicum Beach at 28th. Comox, Port Alberni, Port Renfrew, Tofino, and Victoria all shared the 43rd spot, while Parksville ranked 107th.
