With summer in full swing, many Victorians are enjoying beach getaways or relaxing staycations.
But while you may have vacation on your mind, patients across the country are thinking about their next medical treatment or are in the hospital, unable to fully enjoy this sunny season.
The need for blood doesn’t take a vacation—but you can make all the difference this summer by donating blood in Victoria, whether it’s your first or 50th time!
Canadian Blood Services’ Victoria Donor Centre is open this upcoming long weekend, including Monday, August 5th (BC Day) and they currently have over 100 open blood donation appointments available over the holiday.
Thankfully, rolling up your sleeves for the first time comes with some surprising perks, including learning what your blood type is PLUS free snacks – who can say no to free snacks?!
CBS is encouraging donors to continue to help keep Canada’s Lifeline strong by asking friends and family members to donate. Many first-time donors bring a co-worker, friend, or family member. Chances are someone you know has needed blood products!
One in two people in Canada are eligible to donate, but only one in 81 does, whereas cancer patients, accident victims and people with blood disorders rely on blood, platelets and plasma transfusions every day.
There are usually same-day and open appointment spots are available every day at donor centres and community events, so make sure you head online to see where you can donate!
