There will be a celebration of Indigenous culture and art happening this weekend at Malahat SkyWalk, offering visitors the chance to experience traditional drumming and dance, singing, live demonstrations, an artisan market, and more.

Happening Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th, the Four Winds event is a collaboration between the Malahat Nation and Malahat SkyWalk, created to honour and celebrate Indigenous culture and art.

This unique gathering invites visitors to listen, witness, and take part in meaningful moments shared by Indigenous artists, makers, performers, and entrepreneurs from several Nations across South Vancouver Island.

“We are proud to introduce Four Winds at Malahat SkyWalk, created in collaboration with Malahat Nation and hosted on their territory,” says Nathan Bird, General Manager of Malahat SkyWalk.

“The weekend-long event is about connecting, honouring, and celebrating Indigenous artists and entrepreneurs. We hope this is just the beginning of many more opportunities to bring awareness to First Nation culture, history, and traditions.”

In addition, kids and teens will get in free to Malahat SkyWalk this weekend, with the purchase of an adult ticket. Tickets can be purchased online here.

Four Winds will offer a fully immersive experience, and brings together Indigenous dance, drumming, singing, food, and artistry, in the breathtaking forest setting of Malahat SkyWalk.

First Nation entrepreneurship will also be on full display at the artisan market with jewellery, arts, and crafts, and there will be live demonstrations with instructions and teachings on the art of Indigenous carving, drum making, and rattle making.

Guests can also enjoy special performances by the Cowichan Tzinquaw Dance Group and the Growingthunder/Runningbear Family.
