Are you planning your travels for 2025?
If you live on Vancouver Island, you might not need to venture far to experience one of the world’s top destinations.
Online travel guide Travel Lemming has just named Salt Spring Island among the world’s 50 best places to travel in 2025.
The idyllic Gulf Island is one of just three Canadian destinations to make the cut.
According to a press release, Travel Lemming’s selections were curated by their team of seasoned travel bloggers, who have personally visited the chosen locations. This approach was designed to offer an authentic alternative to the rise of AI-generated travel itineraries.
“Our team of real live human travelers loved visiting these 50 places, and we think you will too,” the Travel Lemming blog post states. They added, “Corporate billionaires like Google CEO Sundar Pichai and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman want to use AI slop to replace not only travel blogs like ours, but also the thing that makes travel truly great: the human experience.”
“If you believe in Silicon Valley, everyone will soon use an AI travel tool to plan their trips. But AI cannot visit a place. AI cannot feel, see, taste, or experience a destination. So why should we trust AI to plan our trips,” said Nate Hake, CEO of Travel Lemming.
“Our annual list of places to travel isn’t just places we think you should go – it’s a list of amazing places we have already visited ourselves and can recommend from real experience,” he continued.

In a more detailed write-up, Travel Lemming highlighted the island’s special energy saying
“They say there are places where a thin veil separates heaven and Earth. Salt Spring Island is undoubtedly one of these. It’s impossible not to feel a special energy here — this stunning Gulf Island has inspired artists and creatives for decades. Pick up a hand-woven blanket, a unique piece of pottery, or a sweet-smelling soap at the seasonal Saturday Market and the quaint shops around town. There is so much talent on this small island!”
The write-up also praised Salt Spring’s incredible food scene stating the rich and fertile land makes Salt Spring a paradise for foodies.
“Locals pride themselves on handmade, artisan delicacies. You’ll have some of the best produce, cheese, and cider right here, and you can’t beat a meal at one of the island’s lovely restaurants overlooking the harbour.”
