The holiday season in Victoria is synonymous with community spirit, dazzling lights, and heartwarming traditions.
Among the city’s most beloved seasonal events is the Festival of Trees Victoria, hosted at Bay Centre, supporting the vital work of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
This year, make your visit even more meaningful by engaging your kids in philanthropy with a fun and interactive experience.
Introduce them to the idea of giving back with a $20 challenge, where they explore the array of Christmas trees and choose four to vote for and donate to. For each tree, have them donate $5 (or more, of course).
This not only teaches kids about the importance of supporting a cause like BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, but also helps them feel personally involved in making a difference.
It’s a great way to combine fun, learning, and kindness into one memorable event!
“Festival of Trees Victoria has become an annual tradition for so many families and friends who love to see the Bay Centre transformed into one of the largest Christmas tree displays on the Island,” said Darlene Hollstein, General Manager of Bay Centre.
“Part of what’s so magical about Festival of Trees is that it’s a really accessible way for children to explore the trees while learning about giving to their community with a donation,” she added.
Here are the top five ways to experience the FOT Victoria:
1. Teach kids about philanthropy with a $20 giving challenge
Share the joys of kindness, community and generosity this holiday season by taking the $20 giving challenge at Festival of Trees Victoria.
Here’s how it works. Set a $20 budget for your kids and as they explore the stunning array of over 90 unique trees throughout the Bay Centre, have them scan the QR codes by their favourite four trees and donate $5 per tree.
This hands-on activity is an opportunity for children to actively participate in the positive impact of giving, making their visit more meaningful while also instilling the importance of supporting the vital work of BC Children’s Hospital.
As children have fun interacting with the trees, they’ll learn how small acts of kindness can make a big difference and connect them with the spirit of giving by turning a festive outing into a lasting lesson on helping their community.
2. Marvel at over 90 festive trees in Victoria’s iconic mall
The Bay Centre transforms into a winter wonderland for the annual Festival of Trees Victoria, featuring over 90 uniquely decorated trees by local businesses, organizations, and individuals.
Each tree offers a creative display, ranging from whimsical to traditional themes. Visitors can admire the artistry, snap festive photos, and vote for their favourites by donating to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Don’t forget to tag @festivaloftreesvictoria and @thebaycentre on social media to share your experience!
3. Support BC Children’s Hospital Foundation
At the heart of Festival of Trees Victoria is a mission to support BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, which provides critical care, equipment, and research for children across the province.
Every dollar donated through the QR codes on the tree labels goes directly to this cause, making your contribution impactful and ensuring brighter futures for countless kids and families.
Support sick kids on the island by voting by donation for your favourite tree.
4. Extend the holiday fun with family activities
While you’re at Bay Centre, why not make a day of it? Enjoy holiday shopping, grab a festive treat, or take a family photo in front of one of the stunning displays. You can even turn your tree donations into a scavenger hunt, challenging kids to find trees with unique themes or decorations before deciding which ones to support.
And while you are there, don’t forget to stop by Oso Dessert Café in the food terrace, where you can indulge in a delicious Festival of Trees-inspired treat. Partial proceeds from these special desserts go directly to BC Children’s Hospital, making every bite as meaningful as it is sweet.
And if you happen to be in the mall on the days listed below, capture the magic of the season with complimentary holiday photos from Four Frames in centre court on select Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.—includes a free seated photo, digital print, and a digital copy. Upcoming dates available: December 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th.
